About Me

Screen shot 2014-07-10 at 09.57.35My name is Lesley Donoghue and I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with extensive experience working with a range of issues that people bring to my own private practice. In addition to  counselling in Fareham I gained much experience as a Trauma Counsellor over a ten year period counselling in Portsmouth at a crisis centre for both male and female adults and young people recovering from sexualised trauma.

My long term interest in human psychology and how people cope with personal struggles and life changing events eventually took me into the counselling training field in 1994. I also  explored the creative arts therapies as part of a Fine Art Degree before returning to counselling training in more depth. Along the way I had begun to recognise the values in various different therapy modalities and concluded Integrative training was my best choice as it incorporates a few of these. Additionally I have extensive training in the trauma field which is an ongoing commitment.

This means I am able to work flexibly as needed in either a short term focussed way or during longScreen shot 2014-08-05 at 10.39.52 term work depending on the individual client’s needs at the time. I work exploratively and collaboratively from a basis of respect and commitment, taking in the experience of conscious and unconscious communication in the developing relationship. I also work extensively with trauma and PTSD and how these affect the nervous system with a view to teaching coping skills and self regulation using grounding techniques and mindfulness.

I am continually updating my training so that I am aware of current and new ways of working with issues to offer my clients.
